The Bryant & Stratton College- Syracuse Women's Soccer team battled with the #1-seed University of Maine- Fort Kent in Sunday's USCAA National Championship Game, but was defeated 1-0.
How it happened:
The Lady Bobcats and the Bengals of University of Maine- Fort Kent entered the match as the #1 and #2 seeds in the USCAA National Tournament. The two teams were undoubtedly the best in USCAA Division 1 Women's Soccer throughout the season and the stage was set for one last battle between the two.
The game was certainly a battle from the opening whistle with both teams creating chances and looking threatening in the attacking third of the field.
In the 30th minute of the match, the lone goal in the Championship Game would be scored by Sage Stroud of the University of Maine- Fort Kent. Stroud found herself on the end of a Chelsea Thornburgh cross just six yards in front of the Lady Bobcats net and buried what would prove to be the winning goal.
The Lady Bobcats did not hang their head at this point in the match and continued to push and create chances. Both Marina Nawa and Masego Nfandiso totaled 5 shots on the day, but were unable to even the score.
As a result, the Lady Bobcats finish the season as the USCAA Women's Soccer Division 1 Runner-Up and an overall record of 9-3-2. The Lady Bobcats set several program records, fought until the final whistle, and have a lot of things to be proud of when reflecting on the 2022 USCAA Soccer season.
