The #2-seed Bryant & Stratton College-Syracuse Women's Soccer team defeated the #3-seed, Mississippi University for Women 4-0 to advance to the USCAA National Championship Game on Sunday.
How it Happened:
As the defending USCAA National Champions, the Bryant & Stratton College- Syracuse Women's Soccer team entered the match this morning with a core group of returners with playoff soccer experience. The only question for the Lady Bobcats was how the new, young core of student-athletes would adjust to the speed and intensity of the USCAA National Championship.
The answer to that question came in the first 10 minutes for the Lady Bobcats. First year, Masego Nfandiso was played through the backline of the Owls, took a big touch to round the goalkeeper, and passed the ball into the back of an empty net giving the Lady Bobcats an early 1-0 lead.
In the 44th minute, the Lady Bobcats would extend their lead to 2-0 just before half-time. First year, Nicelle Drew was found off a great pass from central midfielder, Virginia Simon and doubled the Lady Bobcats' lead.
In the second half, the deadly attacking duo of Marina Nawa and Masego Nfandiso connected once again. Nawa slipped Nfandiso in behind the defense of the Owls and she scored her second goal of the match to give the Lady Bobcats a 3-0 lead.
In the 70th minute of the match, Nawa would get herself onto the scoresheet. The 2022 USCAA Player of the Year dribbled past a defender and drilled a shot into the top corner beating the goalkeeper at the near post.
The Lady Bobcats would maintain the 4-0 lead over the final 20 minutes of the match and move on to the USCAA National Championship.
"We did such an excellent job executing our game plan," said Head Coach Alex Grigorita following the game. "Our team did an awesome job channeling our emotions at the beginning of the game and performed at a really high level today. We are thrilled with the win and will focus on recovery over the next 48 hours to defend our title on Sunday!"
