Newton, NJ-
The Bryant & Stratton College- Syracuse Women's Soccer team picked up their 4th victory in a row on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 win over Sussex County Community College. The win for the Lady Bobcats improves their overall record to 7-2-2 on the season and is their 7th clean sheet on the season.
How it Happened:
After three consecutive away matches over the weekend, the Lady Bobcats were back on the road Wednesday evening for a match with Sussex County CC. Perhaps the longest road trip of the season impacted the Lady Bobcats in the first 30 minutes of the match as they struggled to match the intensity level and energy of the home side.
However, continued stout defensive play from central defenders Shennel Daniels and Nina Kotroba helped keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
What happened during the halftime break is tough to say, but the side that appeared for the Lady Bobcats during the second half was completely different that that of the first.
The Lady Bobcats seized control of the pace of play and were relentless in their movements trying to get behind the back line of the Skylanders.
In the 50th minute of the match, the Lady Bobcats found the breakthrough via an excellent finish from Masego Nfandiso. Nfandiso received a pass from Marina Nawa with both a defender and the keeper to beat. With just one touch of the ball and a devastating body-feint, Nfandiso found herself with an empty net to give the Lady Bobcats the lead.
The pressure from the Lady Bobcats did not relinquish once they earned the lead. Twenty minutes later, Nawa once again played a through ball to Nicelle Drew down the sideline. Drew, from a tough angle, was able to fire a shot over the head of the Skylanders' keeper and into the back of the net to give the Lady Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
To secure the victory for the Lady Bobcats in the 80th minute of the match, Nfandiso and Nawa linked up once again with Nfandiso scoring her 2nd goal of the evening and Nawa providing her 3rd assist on the night.
When asked for his thoughts after the match, Head Coach Alex Grigorita said, "I am really proud of the way that our team improved over the course of the match. When you are able to learn valuable lessons and still win matches, it is always a good feeling."
Grigorita went on to say, "With such a young team, it is a great lesson to learn that you need to be ready for a match from the opening whistle. Finding a consistent level of play to hold ourselves accountable to will be important for us as we move forward."
Next Game:
The Lady Bobcats will return home this Sunday, October 23rd at 1pm for their final match of the regular season against SUNY-ESF.
