Women's Soccer Suffers Setback Against William Smith
Clare O'Connor and Ava Belcuore secured a victory for William Smith College in a 3-0 win over the Bryant & Stratton College Women’s Soccer team on Sunday afternoon at William Smith Field. The Lady Herons scored their first goal just before halftime at the 41:00 mark. Sophomore forward Clare O'Connor (Port Jefferson, NY) broke through the Lady Bobcat’s defensive line and was able to place the ball past the goalkeeper from the right wing. The Lady Herons lead 1-0 at the end of the first half.
After a tough first half of not being able to counter on their goal scoring opportunities, the Lady Bobcats came out strong in the beginning of the second half. The Lady Bobcats had an early breakaway but were incapable of finding the back of the net. The Lady Herons did not waste any time after a through ball from Clare O'Connor allowed Ava Belcuore (Short Hills, NJ) to double their lead at the 48:12 mark.
The Lady Bobcats were unable to break the Lady Heron’s momentum as the second half progressed. The Heron’s sophomore forward Clare O'Connor found herself in front of the goal again, and finished her chance when the ball deflected off the Lady Bobcat’s keeper at the 65:34 mark. The Lady Herons maintained their lead and finished the game without conceding, resulting in a 3-0 loss for the Lady Bobcats.
The Lady Bobcats (4-2-1) are away next week as they face Albany College of Pharmacy on Wednesday at 7pm.
