Extra Time Winner Pushes Women's Soccer Past Penn State Hazelton
Hazleton, PA - Freshman midfielder Koemhong Hout (Phnom Penh,Cambodia) scored her first two career goals leading the Lady Bobcats in a win over Penn State Hazleton Friday night. The Lady Bobcats scored first, late in the second half at the 75:32 mark. The Lady Bobcats were able to break down the Lady Lion’s defense, giving Titanya Laing (Kingston, Jamaica) the opportunity to find Koemhong Hout (Phnom Penh,Cambodia) and put the Lady Bobcats ahead with an 1-0 lead.
The Lady Lions soon answered back and countered on a defensive mishap taking the game into a 1-1 draw at the 83:04 mark, with a goal by Emma Wyllie (Benton, Pennsylvania). Both the Lady Bobcats and the Lady Lions fought hard to the finish, not allowing the other to counter or score. After the whistle blew and the 90 minutes were up, both teams found themselves in extra time with a golden goal deciding who would win the match. The Lady Bobcats came out strong and capitalized within the first minute of the extra time period. Senior captain Njemile Charles (Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago) was able to find Koemhong Hout (Phnom Penh,Cambodia) who once again found the back of the net, leading the Lady Bobcats to their first away victory.
The Lady Bobcats defense once again played a crucial role in Friday night’s game. Senior captain Njemile Charles (Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago) was able to clear away a shot from the Lady Lions that otherwise would have been an earlier goal. Junior defender Elaina Sherwood (Camden, NY) also played a key role in the Lady Bobcats defense as she was able to stop the Lady Lions from numerous counter attacks.
The Lady Bobcats (2-0-0) will finish their away weekend with a game against Washington Adventist University Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
