Women's Soccer Earns Impressive Draw Against the Nation's Top Team
Bryant & Stratton Women's Soccer team broke program history on their biggest game of the season as they drew the #1 team in the nation this past Monday. In the past, the University of Maine Fort Kent has blew past the Lady Bobcats with serval high scoring victories in the season as well as at the USCAA National Championships.
The Lady Bobcats and the Lady Bengals are no strangers when it comes to playing each other. Both teams came into the game knowing that this past Monday’s game was crucial in their USCAA seeding. The Lady Bobcats and the Lady Bengals both came into the game with high pressure and intensity. The Lady Bobcats had early scoring opportunities but were unsuccessful. The Lady Bobcats defense played a crucial role in shutting out the #1 team in the nation as they closed off any opportunities the Lady Bengals tried to create. Both teams were unable to find the back of the net, leaving the first half scoreless.
Both the Lady Bobcats and the Lady Bengals came out with even more energy and eagerness to score in the second half. The Lady Bobcats had some very close chances but they hit the post a few times and were unable to score from a penalty kick. Both of the Lady Bobcats goalkeepers, Shakea O’Garro (Liberta Village, Antigua and Barbuda) and Victoria Herrera (Queens, NY) had crucial saves in shutting out the Lady Bengals, that led to a total of 10 saves. The regulation time ended scoreless and both teams found themselves into extra time.
After a long fought out game, both teams went through the double overtime scoreless. The Lady Bengals outshot the Lady Bobcats 22-17. Both teams had key opportunities but were unable to counter and win the game.
Not only was it one of the biggest games of the season and the last home game for the Lady Bobcats but it also was the Lady Bobcats Senior Night! We would like to thank and recognize senior captains Brooke Laukaitis (Auburn, NY) and Njemile Charles (Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago) as well as Portia Davis (Pares, Antigua and Barbuda), Andrea Giron (Queens, NY) and Jazmin Gonzalez (Harlem, NY) for all of their hard work and commitment to the Lady Bobcats!
The Lady Bobcats (4-3-2) will be away this week as they face Mohawk Valley Community College this Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
