Bobcats Bounced from Nationals After Losses against Cleary and UMFK

The Bryant & Stratton College women’s soccer team saw their 2018 season come to an end with a pair of losses in pool play at the USCAA National Tournament.

Their opening game was a rematch of the thrilling 0-0 tie with the University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals from October 15. It was more of the same from the two sides as 90 minutes wasn’t enough to decide anything. It would be Veronica Paz who would break the tie for the Bengals, scoring five minutes into overtime to lift the Bengals past BSC.

The opening loss wasn’t unlike the loss the Bryant & Stratton men’s team suffered to Cleary as the Bobcats carried much of the possession, ultimately outshooting the Bengals 20-6, with nine shots on target.

Bryant & Stratton was left with a challenging road to the National Championship, needing a win against Cleary to earn a third game and an opportunity for revenge against UMFK.

Things started well for the Bobcats as Koemhong Hout scored the game’s opening goal, giving BSC a 1-0 lead. However, Cleary would strike back with goals in the 39th and 63rd minutes. First-team All American Portia Davis kept the Bobcats alive but Cleary’s Anna Jennings would deal BSC their final blow, scoring the game winning goal in the 83rd minute.

Bryant & Stratton was the only side to score against Cleary in the tournament, as the eventual National Champions enjoyed 3-0 and 2-0 wins over UMFK in pool play and the National Final.
