Bobcats Track & Field Start Inaugural Season in Style
The Bryant & Stratton College track & field team was given a trial by fire in their inaugural season, opening their schedule with two meets in five days.
The Bobcats opened with the Roc City Invitational at Nazareth College on Saturday, April 11th. The meet featured 23 schools and over 1,100 athletes and some difficult weather conditions. Despite a significant headwind and 40 degree temperatures, each event was well represented, including the BSC runners.
BSC's second meet came on Wednesday, April 15 at the SUNY Delhi Bronco Weekday Classic. The five-school event featured junior college powerhouse, Herkimer in the field. Despite the stiff competition, both Tevin Johnson and Rebecca Brown captured the first two event wins in BSC program history.
Johnson took first place honors in the 800m while Brown was the fastest woman on the track, taking first in the 100m dash. Johnson added impressive finished in the 1500m (4th) and the 4x400 relay (3rd). Brown was a versatile weapon for BSC as she also placed in the 200m and shot put. Abu Swarray place in the top 6 in both the shot put and discus events.
These strong performances propelled the Bobcats to a third place finish overall at the meet, giving the young program a tremendous building block in this inaugural season.
