Bryant & Stratton College - Syracuse
Bobcats Continue Momentum with Two Big Victories
Sep 19, 2016

The Bryant & Stratton College men's soccer team put a pair of impressive victories behind their #2 ranking in the USCAA preseason coaches poll, beating Albany College of Pharmacy and Villa Maria College by a combined score of 14-0.

Kennil Polius (Fr., Catherines, St. Lucia) led the way on Friday, potting a hat trick and adding an assist as the Bobcats rolled 6-0 over Albany College of Pharmacy. Hassan Abdi (Fr., Syracuse, NY) opened the scoring for the Bobcats and Zino Zampach (Fr., Steinbach, Germany) doubled the lead just 10 minutes later.

Then the Polius show started. Only 30 seconds of game time elapsed after Zampach's goal when Polius scored his first. He only needed four more minutes to pick up his second and extend the BSC lead to 4-0. Mattieu Leroux (Fr., Errue Gaberic, France) closed the first half with a goal of his own, giving the Bobcats a commanding 5-0 lead after the first 45 minutes.

While BSC didn't press the issue nearly as much in the second half, it didn?t keep Polius from completing his hat trick as his goal in the 76th minute would round out the scoring for the Bobcats. Refik Begic (Fr., Utica, NY) secured the clean sheet with a pair of saves as the Bobcats defense conceded only five shot attempts and only a pair on target.

Friday's momentum carried over to Saturday as five different players tallied for the Bobcats in their 8-0 win over Villa Maria College.

For the second-straight day BSC scored five first-half goals with Leroux and Gontzal Gili Balaguer (Fr., Benidorm, Spain) each picking up a pair. Leroux's goal came less than a minute into the game and off a string of 15 passes, a play that ranks among the best goals in the history of the program according to head coach Nick Dimitrievski.

Leroux added his second before Balaguer banged in a brace of his own with Jeffery Suazo (Fr., Bronx, NY) rounding out the scoring in the first half.

Zino Zampach (Fr. Steinbach, Germany) scored from the spot at the opening of the second half and before the first minute of the half was completed, the Bobcats had added two more goals. Balaguer completed his hat trick 30 seconds after Zampach's penalty kick and Alex Pompo (Fr., Baldwinsville, NY) slotted one home 21 seconds later.

Begic picked up his second clean sheet of the weekend without having to deal with a shot on target. In total, the Bobcats outshot Villa Maria 34-1 on the afternoon.

The victories lead the Bobcats into one of the toughest tests of the season, a rematch of last year's National Championship game with the University of Maine-Fort Kent. UMFK topped the Bobcats to capture last year's national title and this early season clash may just be setting the table for another showdown for the national title.
