Bobcats Split Weekend Trip in Boston
Boston, MA –
How it Happened:
In Friday's matchup against Roxbury Community college, Syracuse Bobcats traveled to Boston to face off against the Tigers. Coming off a hard fought win against ESF, who shot extremely well from behind the ark, the Bobcats needed a defensive game to get back to their way. Darren Joyner finshed with 24 points, on 5-8 from long range.
The final score was 79-58 holding their opponent to under 60 is a trend that the Bobcats would like to lean into when their offense comes in transition from solid defense and protecting the glass. Tyrece Thompson made his presence felt in the second half as he finished with 13 points, 7 boards & 4 blocks. Getting four players into double figures was a key point of the win, as Chamarri Baskerville added 13 of his own on 6-12 shooting, and Moses Hughes finished the game with 14 points & 8 rebounds.
Saturday afternoon would be the second game of the road trip in as many days where the bobcats would face off against the Fisher Falcons, and a 3 o’clock matchup.
At the half it was tied 46 all. Fisher played with good pace, and capitalized on turnovers at the opportune times. A tough road environment, the Bobcats fought to tie the game late after being down by more than five with two to play. Forcing OT put the momentum back into the hands of the Bobcats heading into the extra frame.
In OT, after getting out to an early seven point lead, the Bobcats were two minutes away from getting out of a hostile environment and secure an undefeated record on the start of the season. The Falcons found a way to cut the lead to 2, and ended up going to line to put themselves up by 1 after a loose ball foul late in the overtime period. Despite the obstacles, the Bobcats had a last second chance to win the game, but the half court shot was off the mark. This game will serve as a learning experience for a team who started the season 7-0, and will adapt when it comes to late game management.
Joyner led all scorers with 33 points, had 5 rebounds and 4 assists. He shot 12-21 from the field and connected on 4 three pointers.
