Syracuse, NY-
The Bryant & Stratton College- Syracuse Men's Basketball team defeated Jefferson Community College, 75-57 and Bryant & Stratton College- Rochester, 88-79 over the weekend to set the new single-season record for wins. The Bobcats overall record reaches new heights at 12-5 and they will look to continue their historic season with 7 games left to play.
How it happened:
On Friday evening, the Bobcats traveled to Jefferson Community College for a battle with a strong NJCAA opponent. The first half in this game was a defensive battle as both teams created turnovers and were tough to breakdown. The Bobcats were able to edge a 3-point lead, 25-22 heading into the half and would never give the lead back to their opponents. The reason for that was thanks to an offensive explosion by the Bobcats early and often throughout the second half. The lead would stretch from 3-points to 19-points over the first 6 minutes of the half as the Bobcats went on a 17-1 run to open the second period. Leading the way for the Bobcats on the evening was guard Moses Hughes (17 points) and forward Josue Oreste (13 points, 6 rebounds). The Bobcats also benefited from a great evening by the bench adding 24 points to help the Bobcats earn the 75-57 victory over Jefferson Community College.
On Sunday afternoon, the Bobcats would play their third game in six days as they faced off against familiar opponent, Bryant & Stratton College- Rochester. The Bobcats played Bryant & Stratton College- Rochester twice already this season and defeated them 69-66 on January 19th and 81-58 on December 2nd. The familiarity between these two teams was evident throughout Sunday's intense contest and was a much closer contest than the previous two. In fact, the game would need 5 additional minutes of overtime to decide who would win the final matchup of the season. In overtime, guard Moses Hughes continued his dominant stretch of play over the past few weeks and lead the Bobcats to victory. Hughes poured in 27 points on the afternoon and would not accept any other result than a victory for the Bobcats. Key performances from Anton Berga (16 points) and Ravon Burnett (7 points) helped spur the Bobcats to their program-record 12th victory, 88-79.
"We built this portion of our schedule to be heavy with games in an effort to simulate what a run in the postseason might look like," said Head Coach Clay Gagen-Sherman. "Coming away with three victories and the new single-season record for wins is something that our group can be really proud of after a tough week. With that being said, our group has much bigger goals and we need to continue to work hard and get better over the last month of the season to makes those goals a reality."
Next Game:
The Bobcats will have a week to rest after playing three games in a week as their next contest is this Saturday, February 4th at 6pm versus Cheyney University right here in Syracuse!
