New York, NY-
The Bryant & Stratton College- Syracuse Men's Basketball team defeated Five Towns College, 89-59 and Berkeley College, 97-82 over the weekend. The two victories improve the Bobcats record to 8-4 on the season. The record of 8-4 heading into the mid-season Holiday break is the best in program history.
How it happened:
On Friday evening, the Bobcats traveled to Long Island, NY to play against the Sound of Five Towns College. In the first half, the Bobcats were able to open up a 10-point lead over the Sound thanks to strong starts from Anton Berga (13 points) and Jameel Abdallah (13 points).
However, the Bobcats were able to rely heavily on their bench in the second half as the lead eventually ballooned all the way up to 30 points. Feeling at home, the Long Island natives, Antonio Scott and Tayron Bangs each scored 11 points for the Bobcats off the bench. To round out a very balanced attack for the Bobcats on the evening, Moses Hughes and Vincent Frenza both scored 11 points apiece as well. The final score on Friday evening's victory was 89-59 Bryant & Stratton College- Syracuse.
On Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats had a quick turnaround for what proved to be a tough matchup against Berkeley College. Once again, the Bobcats scoring was incredibly balanced with all 5 starters reaching double figures on the day.
Leading the way on Saturday for the Bobcats was Anton Berga who scored a team high 25 points on an impressive 10-15 shooting from the field. Following Berga were Jameel Abdallah (16 points and 10 rebounds) and Moses Hughes (16 points). As mentioned, all five starters reached double figures with Josue Oreste adding 15 points and 9 rebounds and Darren Joyner scoring 10 points.
Although the game remained close, the Bobcats were able to pull away late and extend their 8-point halftime lead to 15-points by the end of the game. The final score on the afternoon was 97-82 Bryant & Stratton College- Syracuse.
"Our guys did a great job of finishing off the first-semester of the season with positive momentum," said Head Coach Clay Gagen-Sherman following the pair of victories.
"We are really proud to be setting a high standard for ourselves, but know that we still have a lot of work to do following the mid-season break. Some time off will be good for us to refresh an refocus for what we know will be a tough second half of the year."
Next Game:
The Bobcats will have just over a month off before traveling to Takoma Park, Maryland for a rematch with Washington Adventist University. Tip-off on the 22nd of January is slated for 2pm.
