Syracuse Lady Bobcats go unbeaten in New York City improving their record to 3-3!
After a tough start to the season, the Lady Bobcats of Syracuse have found their rhythm. They won their first game in program history on November 9th against Albany Pharmacy of Health Sciences. The team recently traveled down to New York City to play a pair of games against Vaughn College and Berkeley College.
"The goal of our trip is to come back to Syracuse with a five hundred record while displaying an exciting brand of basketball in front of many of our student athlete's families." Coach Sherman said prior to the weekend.
The Bobcats won both games, making it three straight wins for the program.
Bryant & Stratton matched up against Vaughn College on Friday, November 14th at the Elmcor Recreation Center in Corona, NY. The attendance was great, and the atmosphere was very welcoming as their families and friends poured into the crowd. The Bobcats jumped out of the gates ready to play taking a 101-28 victory over the Vaughn College Warriors.
The team shared the ball and everyone contributed in a big way. Five Bobcats scored double figures. Tashema Lee and Lakeima Williams combined for forty points, Tashema with 21 and Lakeima with 19. Amanda Cruz recorded a triple double. She finished the game with 15 points, 11 assists, and 10 steals. Damaris Hudson added 12 points while Aaliyah Cruz also pitched in with 11. Despite only playing 10 minutes, Edwina Wright scored 14 points for the Warriors.
The following day the Bobcats traveled to the Borough of Manhattan Community College to take on the Berkeley College Knights. The Bobcats would prevail in a barn burner that came down to the final possessions of the game.
"The girls came ready to play today. We took an early lead and never sacrificed that lead throughout the course of the game despite Berkeley going on run after run to keep it close."
Berkeley College's Amirah Greene scored a game tying basket with forty-five seconds remaining in the game. With a score of 75-75 the Bobcats point guard Amanda Cruz brought the ball down the floor. She was able to penetrate and kick the ball early in the shot clock to a heavily contested Darmarris Hudson. Darmarris caught the ball in the corner with a defender on her. She shot a three pointer with hands in her face and knocked down what would be the game winning shot. This put the Bobcats up 78-75. The Bobcats would get a stop and knock down free throws. The final score was 80-75 Bryant & Stratton Syracuse.
"As a Coach, you would like to be able to help position your team to win late in a game like that. However, we were out of timeouts and going against the momentum so it was up to the girls to make something happen. Fortunately for our us, we have players that can make plays. Darmarris stepped up and hit a big time shot for our program."
Lakeima Williams, Tashema Lee, and Amanda Cruz all added double-double efforts in the Bobcats victory. Lakeima scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Tashema finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Amanda dropped 20 points and dished out 10 assists. Amirah Greene was a standout for Berkeley. She finished the game with 30 points and 8 rebounds.
The Bryant & Stratton Syracuse Lady Bobcats have now won 3 straight games. During this three game stretch they have scored an average of 91.0 points per game while holding their opponents to 55.0 points per game. Their next game will be on Wednesday, November 20 as they look to extend their winning streak against Corning Community College on the road. They will then be on the road again this weekend for back to back action. The team will travel to Word of Life to take on Davis College on Saturday, then travel to Sage College in Albany to take on their sister school Bryant & Stratton Albany!
